The artist
Tony Matthews makes art from the road.
His latest passion is a world-traveling adventure — keep on moving, “the ART of life,” he calls it. His studio is a sailing yacht called Hoofbeats, currently cruising El Salvador in pursuit of the next inspiration.
The work that comes from that life is eclectic, vivid, and made to meet the real world: homes, offices, hotels, malls, and the bare walls in between.
A simple belief
Art should change the temperature of a room.
It can make a hallway feel like a beginning. A lobby feel less anonymous. A home feel more like the people who live there.
That’s why these images are unapologetically colorful, tactile, and full of motion. They are meant to be felt from across the room.
